The Creators Project At La Gaité Lyrique: Meet Edouard Salier

by Morgan Poyau June 10, 2011

For us, it’s always a very moving moment to introduce you to a new Creator. This time, the new member of our growing community, Edouard Salier, comes from Paris, France. You should not be fooled by his humble nature because, although he may seem soft-spoken and benign, he’s also one of the best music videos directors out there. If you feel this is a too grandiloquent and definitive statement, check out his amazing work for Justice’s new track “Civilization,” which deals, in no particular order, with a posthuman world, the Apocalypse, buffalos, and the birth of a new world that emerges from within the decimated ruins of the old one—in less than four minutes.

Discover the creative process behind the video for “Civilization,” and see what goes on behind the scenes in Salier’s studio, as well as view a retrospective of his short films and other personal projects made over the years.

As a pioneer in digital multimedia animation, Salier is a perfect inclusion in our panel discussion held tonight at our Paris event. This conversation will be dedicated to the current transformation of the music video at a time when changing formats and new video technology is constantly renewing itself. They will attempt to lay out the foundations behind the music video from an artistic, technical, and commercial point of view.

This panel discussion will bring together Edouard Salier; Adam Traynor, co-director of Ivory Tower on/with Chilly Gonzales; and Megaforce, the hybrid video maestros who are behind the joyful peri-urban guerilla scenes that pit hordes of bloodthirsty kids against each other in Is Tropical’s video “The Greeks.”
