Interactive Kinect Visuals With Oscillating Waves And Reactive Bubbles

Kevin Holmes February 11, 2011

These are some pretty wild Kinect music visuals created by YouTube user englandrp. Starting out with oscillating neon lines the video then progresses into explosions of reactive particles creating a sea of bubbles, all set to “10,000 Lines” by Electric President. Just imagine this on the wall of a club after a few tequilas, or projected over the crowd. How did he do it? He explains in the comments section:

It uses OpenFrameworks, with the following addons:

ofxKinect (gets the Kinect point cloud data)

MSAPhysics – controls the particle physics, and enables physics interaction with the kinect data (though most of my kicks miss the particles, they are interactive and will bounce off the scenery/me)

I take the sound feed from the mic sound object, get the sound spectrum and apply it to the kinect data to produce the lines.
