Jammer's Music Masterclass

by Bruno Bayley July 17, 2010

Everyone was wondering what exactly the pop panel was going to consist of. At 9 PM it became clear when producer Mumdance, MC/producer Jammer, vocalist Sampha and the xx’s studio wizard Rodaidh McDonald took the auditorium stage to create a new song in one hour with the help of the audience. Jammer claimed to have been drinking for three days straight, but that didn’t really slow him down. Mumdance laid down the initial beat while Jammer and his right-hand man C-Gritz leant on the lectern, sipping champagne, and scrawling lyrics on their pads. Within 15 minutes there was some semblance of a rhythm, and the vocal hook “Too much alcohol in my system” had become firmly wedged on the computer and in the audience’s heads. Jammer dubbed the compere Eddy Moretti “the 2010 Gamesmaster", while Rodaidh demanded that Eddy keep quiet on occasion. By the 45-minute mark, Jammer was excitedly practicing his bars on the side of the stage as the final synth touches were added by Sampha. Then five members of the audience were invited onstage to record backing vocals. The crowd was then hushed to allow Jammer to record his lines, an act that required the removal of his shirt. With Eddy nervously eyeing the clock, the panel announced that the track was complete before they performed the final version to a very appreciative crowd. To hear the track, keep an eye out for the updates we’ll be posting on this blog in the coming week.
