We Meet Mumdance

by Bruno Bayley July 17, 2010

And here’s another one of our pop panelists, the genre-hopping musician Mumdance.

The Creators Project: So, who are you and what are you doing here at The Creators Project?
Mumdance
: I am Mumdance, and I am a DJ and producer. I’m based in Brighton but I spend a lot of time in east London working with grime musicians. I work on all sorts of music, right across the board.

What have you been working on recently?
I went to Mexico with a British Council project to bring British and Mexican producers together. So I have been working there with a genre called “tribal guarachero” – it’s like ghetto music from Mexico City. It’s very weird and hard to explain, but it is amazing.

And tonight you are on the Pop Panel, right?
Yes. Me and Rodaidh from XL and Jammer, who I work with a lot, and Sampha. We are going to try and make a song live. I have no idea how it will go, but we are all professionals so I am sure it will be all right.

What do you think of The Creators Project?
Well, I need to have a better look around, but from my first impressions it looks amazing. I think it is nice to see Brodinski involved – you have a great line-up of people. Everyone is on the right wavelength. I think it’s great that people are doing multi-discipline events, not just music events – they have visuals, sculpture and so on. I think that is far more interesting than one aspect alone, and I am glad people are getting involved.
